Wearing Hijaab whilst Reading Qur’aan

By Shaykh Muqbil bin Haadi al Waadi’ee

What is the ruling on a woman wearing hijab when she reads Qur’aan? Is it Mustahabb recommended in order for the angels to attend the sittings of Allaah’s remembrance or is it from imitating the female Companions who used to wear hijab all the time?

Answer: Whether a woman is on her own and she wears hijaab or not, I do not know anything that would be binding on her to wear hijab (whilst reading Qur’aan with no men around). Allaah’s aid is sought.
The story where Khadeejah رضي الله عنها came to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم after revelation had come to him in the early days and she did not have a covering on her head. Then the one whom the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم saw went away. She said it was an angel. If it were a shaytaan he would have stayed. This story is mentioned in the Seerah of Ibn Ishaaq and I do not hold that it is authentic.
