In this blessed month there are many good and noble deeds. From them is reciting the Qur’aan in this month and at all times. However, reading Qur’aan in this month has a great virtue because it is the month of the Qur’aan in it Allaah revealed the Qur’aan.

The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs for the guidance and the criterion (between right and wrong).
[2:185]

To increase in reading the Qur’aan in Ramadhaan has an extra special virtue over reading the Qur’aan outside of Ramadhaan.

The Pious Predecessers and one of them, Imaam Malik bin Anas  رحمه الله, used to leave the sittings of knowledge and his study circles (in Ramadhaan) and used to dedicate his time to reading the Qur’aan. They used to bring the Masaahif (written copies of the Qur’aan).
Reading from the Mushaf (written copy of the Qur’aan) is better than reciting from memory because the one who is reading something that is written can reflect on it more than others. Reading from the mushaf is closer to reflection because he is looking at the written aayaat in front of him. If he looks at them he loves them and reflects upon them. This is the reason why reading from the mushaf is better in this month and at other times. A person who reads from the mushaf is better than the one who recites off by heart from his memory. Muslims should dedicate themselves and strive to read the Qur’aan in this month day and night and at all times. Most of it should be recited in their salaah – Tahajjud and Taraaweeh. Read Qur’aan in it. Some used to complete the whole Qur’aan three times in Salaah or twice or once and that was the least. A Muslim dedicates himself to reading Qur’aan in this month as this is the month in which the Qur’aan was revealed. A person should read a lot of Qur’aan in his salaah, sitting, walking and lying down. Some of the Salaf would complete the Qur’aan every ten days, others in seven days, every three nights or one night. ‘Uthmaan bin ‘Affaan رضي الله عنه, the third righteous Khalifah used to read the (whole) Qur’aan in one rak’ah. This indicates their care in reading the Noble Qur’aan, their love for it, their reflecting upon it and their acting upon it.

The Qur’aan is Allaah’s strong rope حبل الله المتين whoever holds on to it will reach Allaah. It is Allaah’s rope.

And hold fast, all of you together, to the Rope of Allah (i.e. this Qur'an), and be not divided among yourselves,
[Aali ‘Imraan 3:103]

Allaah’s rope – it is the Qur’aan. This is an encouragement for unity and not to disunite. You should be under one flag, one imaam. Listen and obey him in what is good. This is Allaah’s rope. Those who hold onto it are saved and will reach Jannah. One end is in Allaah’s Hand and the other end is in the hands of the servant. If a person holds on to it he reaches Allaah and reaches Jannah and achieves happiness.

Verily, this Qur'an guides to that which is most just and right and gives glad tidings to the believers (in the Oneness of Allah and His Messenger, Muhammad , etc.). who work deeds of righteousness, that they shall have a great reward (Paradise).  And that those who believe not in the Hereafter (i.e. they disbelieve that they will be recompensed for what they did in this world, good or bad, etc.), for them We have prepared a painful torment (Hell).
[Israa’ 17:9-10]

The Qur’aan contains threats and promises, stories, news about the past and the future. It also has sciences in it that only Allaah, the Exalted and Mighty, Knows about. The Qur’aan contains Allaah’s Knowledge, Rulings, His Names and Attributes, signs, proofs. It is a Magnificent Book. There was not revealed a book better than the Qur’aan out of the previous books. Just the same way that a Prophet was not sent better than the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم and the Qur’aan was revealed to him.

We ask Allaah, the Exalted and Mighty, that He grants us and you success to read this Qur’aan, act upon it, reflect upon it and love it.
